The Best Looks From The Golden Globes

People love the Golden Globes. First, it brings together our favourites from both film and television, meaning we're served up a double dose of celebrities — and, thus, double the fashion. Second, all attendees are treated to alcoholic refreshments throughout the broadcast, making the bits between award categories (and the ensuing Snapchats) all the more amusing. Needless to say, even before the two-hour red carpet broadcast began, we had the bar set pretty damn high.

Thankfully, that whole "new year, new you" thing that's currently floating around helped breathe some fresh air into the award show circuit, because the 2017 line-up is arguably one of the chicest in recent memory: Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, Ruth Negga, Natalie Portman, Emma Stone, Hailee Steinfeld — and that's just the best actress categories. But, much like the performances that landed them nominations, these ladies didn't disappoint with their fashions, either. See the show-stoppers that won the red carpet in the slideshow, ahead.

Nominee Lily Collins in Zuhair Murad couture is a fairytale. If there was ever a tulle look that rivalled that of the iconic Carrie Bradshaw tutu moment, it's this one. And if you caught Collins' moment during the red carpet, you know it was the first gown she tried on. We're pretty sure that's what they call "love at first sight."

It'd seem that plunging necklines were the secret ingredient to slaying the red carpet tonight, and Mandy Moore got the memo. The This Is Us actress looks stunning in this navy Naeem Khan number.

We're pretty sure this is what it looks like when you're the daughter of Diana Ross, the star of hit television shows like Girlfriends and Blackish, and walked the Thierry Mugler catwalk when you were 17. Tracee Ellis Ross + Zuhair Murad = A fashion lover's dream.

Is Maisie Williams proof that the theory about how Kate Middleton holds her clutch is actually true? Royal Family etiquette stuff aside, this yellow gown on the Game of Thrones star is so regal, and so good.

Maybe you caught this (or perhaps the fashion cameras were too quick), but did anyone else notice the grapes on Jessica Biel's plunging Elie Saab gown? They weren't real, of course — because that'd just be too Lady Gaga circa 2010 — but, well, let's just say that's something we haven't seen on the red carpet before now.

If this Jenny Packham number is some kind of warning that you're about to dominate the red carpets this award season, message received, Kristen Bell.

If it weren't for its serious embroidery, we'd be applauding the sweetheart cut on this Armani Privé dress on Moonlight's Naomie Harris. Oh, hell. Who are we kidding? It's all worth buzzing about.

It's no surprise actress Amy Adams wore Tom Ford tonight since the designer is nominated for two Golden Globes for his work on Nocturnal Animals. We've never seen an A-list cheerleader look this good.

Loving star and nominee Ruth Negga told E! host Giuliana Rancic that wearing her Louis Vuitton gown tonight was an honour. We're pretty sure we'd feel the same. Negga's style domination is just starting and we're too excited.

We're lost in supermodel cum actress Naomi Campbell's mesmerising Brandon Maxwell gown. Her taste (and career) in fashion has clearly transcended both industries.

Millie Bobby Brown will be 13 next month. And here she is at the Golden Globes shutting it down in Jenny Packham. Enough said.

This white number on Thandie Newton looks like it was dipped in gold and sent straight to the red carpet. But in reality, we can only imagine how many hands it took to sew every sequin. Nice work, team Monse.

Oh boy. We should say we saw it coming, but to our actual surprise, Michelle Williams was the one to bring a choker to the red carpet tonight. Partnered with a strapless Louis Vuitton lace gown, we think she did 2016's hottest trend some serious justice.

Pockets, panels, velvet (and a little bit o' sideboob), Zazie Beetz may have just brought Delphine Manivet to your radars, but the French designer has been rocking the bridal world for years.

This may not be Kerry Washington's first rodeo, but it is the first time Dolce & Gabbana's couture line Dolce Alta Moda has been seen on the red carpet. And what a debut it was.

Just about every awards show calls for an offering of the upcoming season's hottest trends, but sometimes, a throwback to the Old Hollywood glamour that started it all balances it out perfectly. Gwendoline Christie's gown (and cape!) is a vintage lover's dream.

They may be fun to look at, but ruffles are turning out to be a secret weapon for celebrities on the red carpet. And when you're ready to rumble, you pull a Zoe Saldana and bust out the Gucci. Boom.

We're not sure if this qualifies as a Naked dress or not, but we're adding Kristen Wiig to the ranks of Beyoncé, J. Lo, and Kim Kardashian anyway. Because this floral Reem Acra get-up is everything.

Winona Ryder in Viktor & Rolf is a fashion goth's dream. The style choices of the Stranger Things star is making her comeback look more like a LBD revolution. Only this LBD is, like, pretty big.

Alright, we're calling this one a power move. But hey, feminist statement or not, Octavia Spencer in this custom suit just brought the heat for two-piece fans everywhere.

Perhaps a subtle ode to Jackie O. (whom she brought back to life in last year's Jackie), we're pretty sure this Prada dress on Natalie Portman would have wowed the First Lady as much as it did us tonight. Well-played, Natalie.

Just when we thought cut-outs were old news, Sienna Miller wearing Michael Kors Collection refreshed our memory with a sleek renewal of the once-everywhere trend. She nailed it.

Actress Sarah Paulson just pulled off a fashion feat: how to hit the Golden Globes and then bring Studio 54 vibes to every after-party that follows. This Marc Jacobs gown was golden (Globes) magic.

First off, if you haven't seen A Monster Calls, stop what you're doing and get thee to a theater. Second, while this Gucci number on Felicity Jones looks phenomenal, the pink and black bit does kind of remind us of one of those MySpace layouts from back in the day.

Get ready for the pun of the night: If Drew Barrymore wasn't so down to earth, she could use the wing-like sleeves on her Monique Lhuillier gown to fly to her next red carpet appearance.

Issa Rae should get an award for bringing the mock-neck to the red carpet this season. In a long-sleeve white Christian Siriano gown, the Insecure actress and first-time nominee did the trend proud.

Where do we start with Sophie Turner's elaborate Louis Vuitton dress. Hm? What with it's weblike design, overlays, and leg slit — we're dizzy (in the best way).

Depending on which angle you look at it from, Felicity Huffman's jumpsuit actually looks like a dress. But alas, what's a red carpet without a fashion illusion? With a shift of her stance, Huffman's subtle ode to Hillary Clinton came to life.

This deep-V Stella McCartney may look like your grandma's favorite table cloth, however, as you can see here, it's anything but. Busy Phillips did the damn thing (with stylish BFF Michelle Williams) tonight.

Of her impeccably-tailored Altuzarra suit, Westworld actress Evan Rachel Wood said it was a message to women that you don't have to wear a dress to be feminine and formal. We couldn't agree more.

We hold yellow in a special place in our hearts every awards season, and Viola Davis in this Michael Kors Collection gown ticks all of our boxes.

"Well, it's got stars on it," Emma Stone told E! host Ryan Seacrest when asked about her Valentino gown. And, well yeah, it does — but it's also the perfect dress to follow-up Stone's incredible role in La La Land. If this doesn't say movie star (literally), we don't know what does.

If you squint your eyes just right, this Chanel Couture gown on Riley Keough is quite a clever way to pull off argyle. We never thought we'd see the pattern on the red carpet, but we're glad we did.

No matter what anyone says, we'll take red carpet red on the red carpet any day. Brie Larson in Rodarte is a match made in heaven.

Singer-actress Janelle Monae has already made her mark on the music industry with her killer dance moves and vocals. Now, in custom Armani, the Moonlight star is ready to rock the world of film. Why not have a little fun along the way?

What's an award's show red carpet without a little razzle-dazzle and a Roaring '20s-style Naeem Khan dress? Thanks for bringing the sparkle, Gina Rodriguez.

Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here?
