Summer's over but the party doesn't have to end yet. Enter stage left Sofie Fatouretchi, one of our favourite DJs and music makers who we can always count on to keep the positive vibes coming with her party-popping mixes and inspired sets. Born in Palo Alto, the 25-year-old classically trained musician (she's been playing the violin since she was four FYI) went to high school in Vienna, but her career in music really kicked off when she started interning at Stones Throw Records, an American independent music label based in Los Angeles, and subsequently got a job.

Fast forward to now and she has her own monthly radio show on NTS, playing hazy beats, psych, funk, dusty grooves and rare tape rap and also has a creative director role at Boiler Room under her belt. We caught up with Sofie to talk music, Miu Miu mules and where to find her on a Sunday morning.

Do you collect anything? Records

What item of clothing are you still hunting out? Robin’s egg blue suede shoes.

How would you sum your style up in three words? Comfortable, eclectic, weird.

What’s your favourite pair of shoes? Blue silk and feather Miu Miu mules with a diamond encrusted heel - a gift from my ex fiancé! They make me feel like Prince.

If you were an item of clothing, what would you be and why? A really versatile silk dress with two pockets because I like only wearing one item of clothing, silk is my favorite material, and pockets for the little things.

What item of clothing best sums you up? I have this one sweater that I always wear, that two of my dearest friends gave me. Or this one romper I’m always wearing. I feel like a cartoon character in that respect sometimes because I have a few things I really like and they stay on very heavy rotation.

If you had to wear one designer for the rest of your life, who would it be? I’d probably choose myself so I could make myself whatever I wanted!

What do you love about the city you live in? Vienna’s museums are my favourite, there’s also this thing called the Filmmuseum here which I’m crazy about, plus I can still be a heathen and smoke indoors almost everywhere since it’s not illegal.

How does it impact your style? It doesn’t too much, really, I usually wear whatever I want.

Where’s your favourite place to shop? In LA I really like Bearded Beagle in Highland Park.

What’s your most important beauty rule? So lame and cliche, but confidence. And drinking a lot of water so your skin stays on point.

Favourite make up product and why? Some Chanel foundation that I bought in Japan, so I don’t really know what it says underneath it/ I use it to cover the circles under my eyes that are impossible for me to get rid of no matter how much sleep I get. I’ve had them since the fourth grade, no joke.

Weirdest beauty trick you’ve ever tried? I’m half Iranian and a lot of Iranian women swear by cedar powder as kind of a cure for everything – as a paste to make a face mask, or to wash your hair with, so I guess that’s probably the weirdest stuff I’ve put on my face…

Who do you stalk on Instagram? @folerio

What’s your favourite picture you’ve posted on Instagram? Tupac toast!

What keeps you up late? My anxiety.

Where are we most likely to find you on a Friday night / Sunday morning? If I’m not at home I’ll be out with friends in a cafe drinking half white wine, half sodas with elderflower syrup (my favorite Viennese drink). Sunday morning definitely at home, likely reading a book in bed or painting.

Your favourite place to eat? La Abeja in Highland Park

Whats your favourite thing to cook? Vegetable soup! Or spaghetti.

Your book club recommendation? I just finished Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami earlier this summer and that was really good. The Communist Postscript by Boris Groys is highly recommendable, too.

Who’s your best buddy? I have four folks I’d consider my best ones.

Where’s your happy place? Wherever my records are…

Your biggest fear? Losing loved ones.

Your biggest achievement to date? I’ve done a lot of great stuff over the past few years at Boiler Room for sure, but personally, my biggest achievement is imminent… I can give a small hint, it’s two LPs of music…

What do you want from your career? Longevity.

Where will you be in ten years? Wherever my heart’s taken me, I suppose.

Who makes you laugh? My friends.

What quality do you most admire in other people? Genuine articles.

What’s next? You’ll have to see and find out!
