The Best Plaits On Instagram

If you're not on social media and somehow missed the buzz last month surrounding Kim Kardashian's #boxerbraids, we're here to remind/inform you that the hottest hairstyle of the moment is the double Dutch plait or classic corn row as they've been known as for centuries.

For the 2016 update, think Hilary Swank in Million Dollar Baby, but if that's two full on boxer brute, look to Katy Perry, Khloe Kardashian (or Kim, Kendall and Kylie for that matter) and Hailey Baldwin for a more feminine and soft take on the hair trend.

Here are some of our favourite braids on Instagram...

If boxer braids are too much for both your scalp and your morning hair routine, why not try an easy and subtle nod to the trend with these mini plaits to frame your face, as spotted on Chiara Ferragni at Milan Fashion Week.

Blogger Tamara Kalinic has the most lustrous and voluminous hair, so naturally she nails the French plait. We prefer our French plaits when they're not too polished and in place, so a few fly aways and a little looseness like hers creates the perfect balance for undone chic.

We're fans of pretty much everything that Amandla Stenberg does, from acting to activism, but we're also very fond of these tiny, extra long plaits that complement her amazing afro.

The dino braid is a slight variation on the boxer braid and championed by the hair queens at Bleach London. These created by Marie Amauger are equal parts sophisticated and grunge. Full marks for the spotted sportswear and ruby red nails too.

Last September Zoe Kravitz told C Magazine, "I originally did them as a joke, like an ode to the ’90s", in reference to her now signature waist-length braids. “They aren’t some symbolic thing," she continued, "but it still feels important, I think, to be a brown girl with natural hair. You see blonde girls with the same hair in every movie." Joke or not, we're rather jealous of her princess plaits.

The boxer braid heavyweight champion Kim Kardashian and her mini me, North West, show us how to wear the style like true pros.

For something entirely different, why not fashion your plait into a chic up do a la Josephine de La Baume. Scrape back the front and slick down baby hairs for full on retro vibes.

Hairstylist to the stars Gregory Russell created this look for Josephine at the Grammys and the model/actress was still wearing the look a few days later...

We've said it once but we'll say it again: we're all about braid looks that aren't too tight and neat. This post from Hersheshons is ultimate #hairgoals.

If you're truly dedicated to the plaited cause, you need to head to the Braid Bar at Selfridges, pronto. The Braid Bar is a new concept in hairstyling with an emphasis on immediacy, accessibility and affordability and the talented team can completely transform your hair in under 15 minutes AND it can last for up to a week. There are countless styles to chose from but we're particularly digging the Iri$.

Victoria's Secret angel Karlie Kloss is adored for her striking looks and tousled tresses but over LFW the supermodel stepped out in a slightly tougher look, sporting boxer braids at the Topshop show.

Lottie Tomlinson is the little sister of 1D's Louis but more importantly the assistant of hairstyling and makeup guru Lou Teasdale. With that said, we can always count on her for the best hair and makeup looks.

When you're your own glam squad and your clients typically include Selena Gomez as well as designers at LFW, you're bound to look flawless. Here Lottie models pastel-coloured dino braids, styled by boss and BFF Lou.

Alex Brownsell, co-founder of Bleach London, is a colourful fountain of creativity and this heart braid in Miss Vogue UK is just another example of her hairstyling genius.

Emily Ratajkowski isn't one to go too far from her fail-safe look of form-fitting outfits and chic waves so we were very pleasantly surprised to see her modelling electric blue plaits and denim, even if it was only for one day.

If the boxer braid is too boring for you, make your own variation with personal touches like letting the ends hang loose.

Blogger Mailili Sasabon proves that boxer braids looks just as good on short hair as they do long. Now where did we put those scissors?
