PHOTO: REX The BAFTAs mean that award season has well and truly begun, and last night the biggest names in Hollywood jetted into London’s Royal Opera House to celebrate the best in cinema and greatest talent of the past year. Though we were delighted to see Leo pick up the Best Actor award for his spellbinding performance in The Revenant and watch newcomer Brie Larson walk away with the coveted Best Actress gong, we were a little distracted by what everyone was wearing. Here are some of our leading ladies from last night’s red carpet.
Lily Donaldson in Saint Laurent
Tbh, Lily could wear a bin bag and still look exquisite but last night she pulled out all the stops in a sheer Saint Laurent blouse and sweeping skirt, accessorised with a gold chain belt. Amongst the more traditional column dresses and conventional gowns in abundance, we loved her rock and roll twist for the ceremony.
PHOTO: REX Julianne Moore in Armani
Despite suffering from laryngitis, Julianne Moore looked absolutely flawless for the event in a white fishtail Armani gown with black straps and an oversized floor-trailing ribbon. Paired with emerald earrings, a polished up do and a slick of fuschia lipstick, Moore effortlessly reminded us why she is one of Hollywood’s most elegant and beautiful stars.
PHOTO: REX Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton
Vikander has been on our radar for a few years now – not only as a rising film star but the one to watch in the style stakes too. Last night she did not disappoint, stepping out in a studded leather dress which she revealed weighed 35lbs. As a face of Louis Vuitton, of course the dress was from the French fashion house and we love watching Alicia continue to take risks both on screen and sartorially.
PHOTO: REX Annabelle Wallis in Oscar de la Renta
Apparently it was the coldest night in four years but actress Annabelle Wallis looked smoking hot – sorry we couldn't resist – in a ruffle-neck, red SS16 Oscar de la Renta gown. As much as we completely adore Sophia Webster, we're not wholly convinced by the black shoes but the Chopard jewellery was the perfect finishing touch.
PHOTO: REX Saoirse Ronan in Burberry
It's safe to say Saoirse nailed it. Feminine, flirty and totally chic, Ronan may not have won a Bafta but she gets full marks for her look for the bash. The Irish actress wore a custom-made column dress from Burberry embellished with floral beading, completing the look with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and lots of diamonds.
PHOTO: REX Cate Blanchett in Alexander McQueen
Never one to go for a boring or safe option, Cate Blanchett arrived in a show-stopping ornate ensemble by Alexander McQueen that featured feathers and floral adornment. The skirt and top were from separate looks from the SS16 show but Blanchett masterfully paired them together creating a unique, stunning look, finished off with Tiffany jewellery.
PHOTO: REX Angela Bassett in Galia Lahav
When you have the most honed and toned arms in the business there's no chance you're going to hide them and Angela Bassett lit up the red carpet with her fuchsia pink, sleeveless fishtail gown. The 57-year-old actress upstaged most of the attendees who were 30 years her junior. All eyes on you Ange.
PHOTO: REX Dakota Johnson in Dior
Of course last night was the Baftas but it was also Valentine’s Day and Dakota certainly stole our hearts with her stunning, spaghetti-strap crimson floor-length Dior gown and matching red lip. Dakota and her stylist, Kate Young, finished the look with Jimmy Choo heels and Repossi jewellery. Simple and sophisticated, a 10/10 from us.
PHOTO: REX Dree Hemingway in Gucci
She may not be the most famous face on the red carpet but Dree Hemingway was definitely one of our best dressed. The model arrived in a carnation-strewn tiered, Gucci gown with a ruffled neck and long sleeves, accessorising with a dainty Jimmy Choo bag. Perfection.
