You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to places to eat in Brighton. Do you pick a place in the North Laines or The South Lanes? Or take your chances on the sea front? It’s hard enough trying to decide what you want to eat in your own home, let alone on the streets of Brighton.

It’s also almost impossible to judge a book by its cover in matters of brunch. Some places look great from the outside, but once you’ve ordered, all you can taste is disappointment. So today I’m sharing my secret sweet spots; here's my insider guide to brunch in Brighton.

Mange Tout

My top brunch recommendation is Mange Tout. It’s pretty well known among Brighton locals for being the place for breakfast and brunch and is always busy, so make sure you leave plenty of time to experience this one. Their full english is one of the best things on earth to eat after a late night and its vegetarian counterpart is just as, if not even more, tasty. The staff are always super friendly and don’t even question the fact that I’ll order an english breakfast and French toast in one sitting. Girl's gotta eat.

Iydea

Whether you go for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner, I can’t recommend a visit to Iydea enough. Specialising in vegetarian and vegan dishes, everything on offer is wholesome and hearty. It’s rustic and cosy, with an inexpensive, down-to-earth menu that positions this vegan/vegetarian haunt miles away from the likes of the perfectly pristine places in Chelsea, where you can’t move for a menu of quinoa and avocados. There are a few of them in Brighton, so if this sounds like your kind of vibe then I would fully recommend taking the time to check it out.

The Creperie

If you’re a sugar fiend, the Creperie might just be the perfect place for you passing through the south lanes of Brighton. Things can get a little busy on the weekend but the Pinterest perfect interior, chocolate covered crepes (Nutella Crepes are a personal favourite of mine) and seriously sweet milkshakes are worth fighting for a seat over. Things are a little quieter later in the afternoon, so if you prefer a more chilled atmosphere, make it a late lunch and chances are you’ll end up with the lower floor to yourself.

Blackbird Tea Rooms

Home to Brighton’s most incredible afternoon tea, crispy bacon sandwiches on fresh crusty bread and sticky toffee pudding, Blackbird is one of my most visited places when I’m feeling a bit “hangry". I’ve managed to work through breakfast and lunch in this place before as it’s the perfect place for long catch ups and a good gossip over copious cups of tea. In addition to delicious food, every detail about Blackbird is inviting, from the wall art down to the cute patterned china tea cups – it’s like going for a great spread at a grandma’s house. Thankfully not my grandma’s though...

Cafe Coho

If you’re a fan of a rustic Shoreditch coffee house then Cafe Coho is definitely worth checking out. Whether you’re starving the second you hop off the train (there’s one literally outside the station) or looking for somewhere lovely to lunch in the South lanes. The pancakes here are large, light and fluffy (my favourite kind) and are served with seasonal fruit, so each visit for pancakes becomes a wonderful game of pancake roulette. Their breakfasts are always a winner if you love something a bit more substantial and the coffee is incredible. Order an iced vanilla latte and you’ll never want a coffee anywhere else but here.

Marmalade

Marmalade is the cafe of my dreams and would be my ultimate favourite over Mange Tout if only it were a little more central. I live a little too far away to make weekly visits, but if you have the time to make your way there, you won’t be disappointed. Every detail about the cafe is absolutely beautiful and so inviting with its elephant grey colour scheme and fairy lights. Of course, the food is delicious - it wouldn’t be a contender for my number one spot if it wasn't, with soups, fresh bread and cakes in abundance, and the hot chocolates are something really special.
