36 Ways To Wear Your Hair, According To Instagram

It gets to this point in the year where you look at your hair in the mirror and you're bored with what you see. Your New Year, New You haircut from way back when in January has long grown out and your autumn highlights have seen better days, right?

If you're considering a little overhaul but aren't sure where to begin, we've trawled the Interweb to find some of our favourite, easy-to-recreate looks to inspire your new 'do. Introducing 36 Insta-approved hairstyles to try out today...

The Soft Centre-Parting

If you're used to a side sweep, a centre parting can be pretty severe. Soften the severity by making the line less sharp and twist your hair up into a loose bun at night so when you take it down in the morning you're left with gorgeous, gentle waves that frame the face like stylist Stephanie Gundelach.

The Perfect Knot

Model and blogger Joanna Halpin has some of the most luscious locks we've seen on the 'gram and this tidy, low knot is as simple and chic as her outfit.

The Halo

The body, the bounce, the colour, the curl... We haven't been this jealous of a head of hair in a long time.

The Multi-coloured Hun (half-bun)

Our favourite hair look at the SS17 shows had to be the multi-coloured locks at Marques' Almeida on the last day of LFW, created by super stylist Duffy. Even if you don't have the vivd peach or pink hair yourself, these half-up, half-down scruffy buns are the epitome of undone elegance.

The Baby Bun

Photographer and stylist Erika Bowes gives us another masterclass in quick 'n' easy hair dos. If you're bored of your bob, change things up by sweeping the top half into a little bun.

The Sweep

Follow the lead of our forever chic Editor-in-Chief, Christene Barberich, and go a deep shade of red.

The Loose Midi

If top knots aren't for you and a low chignon feels too mature, try a slightly dishevelled mid bun a la model and singer Natalie Suarez.

The Classic Centre

We're pretty obsessed with singer Dua Lipa 's voice and style (have you seen those boots and that J.W.Anderson bag?!) but we're equally enamoured with her long, dark locks and simple centre parting.

The Bum-Sweeping Braids

If you're looking for the best braids in town head to Keash Braids, where you can get Rapunzel plaits like Phoebe Lettice, multi-coloured corn rows and countless more complicated designs.

The Cob (curly bob)

Don't be afraid of a short do, even if you have seemingly uncontrollable curls. Artist and model Phoebe Collings James, shows us how it's done with a simple centre parting and ear tuck.

The Willow Smith

This multi-talented 15-year-old is in a league of her own, so naturally we named this hairstyle straight after her. Though plaiting it in the first place might take some time and effort, you'll be able to get up and go each day for ages afterwards.

The Close Crop

Not enough girls are brave enough to try a really short do but Tawan, the winner of Asia's Next Top Model series 4 proves that it can look as feminine and sexy as long locks.

The Dream Curls

Moroccan/Egyptian model, Imaan Hammam, is killing it on the catwalk right now and for the most part doing so with her natural hair rather than the overly straightened, lacklustre look we're used to. About time fashion brands and magazines celebrated that bounce...

The French Plait Pigtails

We all heard the hype surrounding boxer braids but right now we're obsessed with the way model Dominika Grnova has styled her bob, tying the ends of her F rench plaits into little pigtails. Wear with specs for added chic.

The Feathered Fringe

As if we didn't adore Margaret Zhang enough already, her hair game of late has raised her even higher in our estimations. Yes, we know fringes are high maintenance and need a lot of TLC and/or blowdrying but Zhang's feathered bangs are choppy and the messier, the better. That's our kinda fringe.

The Cinnamon Swirl

If you're into hair twists and chignons, then you'll be into Harley Viera-Newton 's hairstyle in a big way. This year saw the introduction of "the hun" – that's a half up/half down 'do, incorporating a bun – but Harley takes the hun to new heights here. Watch and learn.

The Back-Grazing Bun

For that almost unattainable casual chic that L.A. girls seem to pull off effortlessly, try the back-grazing bun. Tie your long locks loosely and as low down as possible and let your hair hang out at the front. This look isn't actually particularly practical when it comes to exercise but it is good for Instagram posts. Thanks for the heads up Gabrielle Epstein.

The Faux Bob

American model Deryln Perez has some of the most enviable curls on Instagram but she gives just as good straight game. This look is the next step on from All Tucked In, creating a bit more body to form a faux bob.

The Modern Milkmaid

And if your hair is slightly longer then follow Hailey Baldwin's lead with perfectly-unperfect plaits and a carefree fringe. This is the perfect summer 'do in hot weather, when you don't want your hair to stick to your head/face/neck/others.

The Sumo Bun

'The higher the hair, the closer to heaven' is a saying right? Model and blogger Joanna Halpin gives us extreme hair goals again with her sumo wrestler tight bun and wispy strays.

The Lara Croft 2.0

No caption necessary really except that this is a super style for superhero girls.

The Nun

We've christened this the 'nest-bun' or alternatively 'the nun'. Typically if someone referred to our hair as a bird's nest we'd take offence but Naomi Shimada shows us how to turn a bad hair day into a bloody good one by twisting unkempt hair into a super-loose-but-somehow-chic bun.

The Chignon

Oh Joan. The supermodel is pretty chameleonic with her hair, whether it's straightened, natural, a high pony, plaits or Princess Leia buns but the sleek side-parted chignon she wore last week was the winning ticket.

The New Curtains

We all remember Ben from A1's hallowed curtains with fond memories but it's not a look that has been successfully remastered. Stylist and fashion blogger Megan Ellaby demonstrates how to work the Modern Day Curtain which are more messed-up and care-free than the perfectly gelled and immaculately centre-parted curtains of yore.

The Mini Fro

Model Poppy Okotcha shows us her Afro A game with her beautiful, mass of curls. It's no wonder that she's featured in every magazine, show and campaign worth talking about.

All Tucked In

If your roots are looking buoyant and bouncy but your ends a little lank, there's nothing more chic than tucking your hair into your top. The turtleneck hair tuck is very Phoebe Philo (the Creative Director of Céline) and is a look all of our favourite street style stars have sported. See Fashion Editor Frances Davison 's recent Instagram for further reference.

The New Frosted Tips

Circa 1999 a frosted tip meant a shoddy over-highlighted hairstyle modelled by at least two out of five members of every boy band. Thankfully in 2016, a frosted tip is the new dip dye as seen here on beauty blogger Amelia Liana who recently bleached her ends silver to hit the slopes on her winter getaway.

Put A Cap On It

A Bad Hair Day is only a few misplaced follicles away from a glorious bedhead look. Slept-in, effortless waves is one of the most desirable hairstyles but achieving that look is not as "effortless" as many an off-duty model makes it seem. Often overall it looks good but your roots have no lift and thus your hair is more Avril Lavigne than Alessandra Ambrosio. In such a case of emergency don a cap a la Behati Prinsloo and enjoy a laid-back, loose hair day.

The Updated Rachel

Rewind to the mid-to-late '90s and 'The Rachel' was the only haircut worth having. It was smooth, it was full-bodied and it curved in beautifully to frame the face. As the '00s approached, we all switched up our locks for a more tousled, boho vibe but fashion blogger Shea Marie proved this week that 'The Rachel' is still worth rocking. Luckily this time round, it's less stripy, brassy highlights and more sleek and sophisticated.

The '90s Topknot

(Too) many men like to sport a topknot and we're pretty certain it's not a good look. We're happy to leave the man bun firmly in 2015. On a woman, however, a topknot is elegant and easy. A few days ago wardrobe stylist and blogger Erica Lavelanet showed off the perfect high bun. If only our baby hairs were so well behaved...

Sea (side) Swept

A bob can be tricky as styling options are limited – how short-haired ladies have struggled to create a full ponytail! Adenorah 's messy, side-parted choppy look is our new go-to for shorter styles.

The New Croydon Facelift

Don't be put off by a high pony. Be bold like Bella Hadid and embrace the new Croydon Facelift. You'll thank us when it emphasizes your bone structure and the compliments come in thick and fast.

The Dishevelled Updo

Photographer, stylist, blogger, law graduate and social media sensation Margaret Zhang can do no wrong. Evidently a woman of many talents, Zhang always has picture-perfect hair. We love this un-done updo, replete with typically unwelcome flyaways.

The Lazy Low-bun

Very, very rarely, perhaps when the Fourth Moon is in the Ascent and the fairies are singing, you'll go to casually tie your hair up and it will naturally form The Perfect Bun that could be straight out of a magazine editorial. It's a moment that cannot be forced, nor recreated, it just happens. May the hairgods be with you when you try to achieve Natalie Suarez' s lazy low-bun.

The Curly Crown

Just so you can appreciate how amazing Derlyn 's hair is we had to include her again, in all her natural glory. We love this side-parted style which makes her hair fan around her head like a halo. She is a total angel after all.

Double French Plaits

Earlier this week Justin Bieber cornrowed his hair and the internet shuddered. Luckily his new girlfriend Hailey Baldwin looks far, far better with French plaits. Give this look a go for instant chic and to accentuate those cheekbones. Duck face optional.
