Welcome to Refinery29's home of all things coming to the big screen near you this July. It's our usual instalment of all the choicest flicks running over the next four weeks.
Because the cinema is basically Netflix but you look more social because you have to actually leave the house, we thought we'd also give you some SparkNotes so you can look super cultured as you lure your housemates to join you in your new life off the sofa.
Whether you're trying to impress your new love interest or you're attempting to broaden your filmic repertoire beyond Mean Girls and White Chicks , here are the films that are worth the £10+ fee. Kinda.
*We can not be held accountable for any dud-date movie choices.
Absolutely Fabulous The Movie – July 1
Sure to be as trashy as it is fabulous, your favourite terrible twosome (walking nicotine factory Patsy and perma-fashion victim Eddie) are back and as frivolous as ever. This time they're forced to flee to the French Riviera after accidentally knocking Kate Moss into the Thames at a fashion party.
Now You See Me – July 4
Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan, Jay Chou, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) heads a crew of talented illusionists called the Four Horsemen who steal from the rich and corrupt and give to the poor. Ocean's Eleven meets Robin Hood .
The Legend Of Tarzan – July 6
The most chest-banging, tree-swingingly fun epic blockbuster of the summer starring a ripped Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie in lots of ripped clothes. The original tale... but not as you know it.
Weiner – July 8
If you see one documentary this summer, see Sundance favourite Weiner . A documentary about disgraced Congressman Anthony Weiner who attempted to make a comeback in 2013 with a campaign for New York City mayor, before everything unravels, again.
Ghostbusters – July 11
The team are back, boiler-suited and booted, but this time it's an all-girl gang. Expect lots of gags from the cast made up of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Oh and they save the world while they're at it too.
The BFG – July 22
Director Steven Spielberg brings Roald Dahl's cult 1982 novel The BFG to life. Follow the tale of 10-year-old Sophie and her friendship with a mysterious Giant as they travel through Giant Country.
Star Trek Beyond – July 22
The 13th film in the franchise with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto reprising their roles as Captain James T. Kirk and Commander Spock, and Zoe Saldana and Idris Elba hoping aboard too. The crew become stranded on a strange and unknown planet where they must fight to survive.
Men & Chicken – July 15
Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) stars in Denmark's Anders Thomas Jensen's black comedy film about two odd brothers who voyage to a dilapidated mansion on a deserted island to find their father and discover the horrible truth about their family.
Finding Dory – July 29
The sequel to Finding Nemo is here – 13 years later. Voiced, again, by Ellen DeGeneres, this time round the story follows amnesiac Dory as she's sets out to be reunited with her parents. Expect tears.
Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here?
