The Beauty Products You Shouldn't Go On Holiday Without

It's that time of year where many of us are booking our summer holidays, or simply counting down the days till we jet off. Summer holidays involve a fair few good things: breaking out of the mould of our daily routine, (usually) spending time in the sun, indulging in good food, and probably just a little bit of partying.

The problem with all of this is what it does to our skin. Who wants to come back from a holiday looking worse than before they went away? Answer: nobody. While we don't recommend taking every skincare product you've ever used with you in your suitcase, or going to bed each night by 9pm, it's handy to take some measures to ensure you return home noticeably more radiant and refreshed.

With that in mind, we've compiled a list of the little beauty products you should consider taking with you when you travel. Wherever you're headed, these sun care products, sprays and facial treatments will see you through the late nights and early morning wake ups to bag yourself a sun lounger.

For the beach-selfie-perfect complexion

Leave heavy foundations at home and dare to bare with a skin perfecting primer. This Becca primer blurs imperfections, gives a woke-up-like-dis glow and makes the skin look healthy and radiant.

Becca Backlit Priming Filter, £32, available at Space.NK

For not letting the sun, sea and sand destroy your barnet

We all know the drill. Sea water, chlorine and sun leave our hair looking more scarecrow than glossy goddess. Luckily Kiehls have just launched their soothing oil hair range packed with argan and babassu oils, which smooth the cuticle, leaving hair frizz-free and smooth.

Kiehl's Smoothing Oil Shampoo, £16, Conditioner £19 and Concentrate, £19 available at Kiehl's

For enviable beachy locks

While it may be impossible to re-create that effortless surfer girl look that some people seem to be born with, this spray will certainly help you get one step closer to bouncy, beach waves.

Sachajuan Ocean Mist, £18, available at Cult Beauty

For all the makeup you need

Armed with a bronzer, blusher and highlighter, this palette can take you from beach to bar in an instant. The natural and radiant finish gives you a sheen that deems it the ultimate holiday accessory.

Hourglass Illume Sheer Color Trio, £54, available at Liberty London

For the best ( and safest) tan possible

Institut Esthederm is, quite frankly, one of the cleverest sunscreens out there. While there are no SPFs on the bottles, you select the protection based on the intensity of the sun in your holiday destination of choice. Even the palest guinea pigs of this product have avoided the dreaded burn.

Institut Esthederm Adaptasun Body Spray, £42.50, available at Cult Beauty

For not looking like a mess on the beach

Listen closely: Do not wear foundation on the beach. Not only does it not look right, it can also clog your pores and make you break out. This Sisley sunscreen for the face is not only going to ensure you don't burn, but it's also tinted - giving you that glow that hides many an imperfection.

Sisley Super Soin Solaire Tinted Sun Care SPF 30, £92.70, available at John Lewis

For the ultimate faux glow

You know those people who always look glowy and healthy? Well, chances are they have invested in a good highlighter (or it could be genes, but let's hope it's highlighter). Charlotte Tilbury's Bar of Gold is the crème de la crème of highlighters and sure to add the perfect subtle shimmer.

No longer available, instead try Tarte Skin Twinkle Highlighting Palette, £31.00, available at QVC

For that post vacate inside-out glow

Add these salts to your drinking water to ensure you return from your holiday glowing head to toe. Containing Hyaluronic Acid (which is known as the fountain of youth, so sign us up!) this secret product gets cells working more effectively and helps metabolism. Basically, this is pretty good for a hangover.

Rejuvenated H30 Hydration, £24.95, available at Rejuvenated

For perfectly conditioned lips

Cracked, sunburnt lips are not a good look. By Terry's Baume de Rose has a SPF15 and is a wonderfully nourishing lip balm.

For perfectly hydrated skin

Sun, sea and sand can play havoc with the hydration levels of your skin. So, to keep that perfectly dewy sun kissed look sans any dryness, this little wonder pot will be your new best friend.

Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief, £34, available at Clinique

For keeping break outs at bay

Sadly, the numerous applications of sunscreen, sweat and elements can cause havoc with your skin, thus breakouts tend to be inevitable for some in the sun. This purifying toner removes oil and makeup. What's more, it helps reduce shine.

Epionce Purifying Toner, £24, available at Epionce

For that ultimate sun kissed glow

Ditch your powder bronzers and invest in a liquid one come summertime. Leaving a sheen rather than a matt finish, Dew The Hoola is lightweight and sits perfectly on top of sun kissed skin to make your complexion look nourished, rather than caked.

Benefit Dew The Hoola Liquid Bronzer, £22.50, available at Benefit

For the best of faux tans

Come the beginning of your holiday, your skin may look fatigued. Hell, come the end of your holiday, you also may look fatigued (tis what happens when closing time is a Mediterranean 6am!). Luckily, you need not return to blighty without looking like you've been locked indoors. Hylamide Glow Radiance Booster offers both long and short term radiance with next generation technology that develops a natural looking golden glow, while also evening out pigment production over time. We need this now.

Hylamide Glow Radiance Booster, £13.33, available at Boots
